Statement Regarding the Events in Iran
Orange County, CA – Hon. Fred M. Whitaker, Chairman of the Republican Party of Orange County, released the following statement on the ongoing unrest in Iran:
“For over 50 years the Islamic Republic of Iran has forced its extremist views upon the people of Iran, especially women. They are forced to cover their heads and bodies regardless of their religion or personal beliefs. This is a violation of basic human rights.
On September 16th, 2022, a 22 year old Iranian woman was beaten by the Morality Police and died from her injuries. Mahsa Amini was killed for being “improperly covered”. The people of Iran have taken to the streets in protest of this senseless act of violence. According to some accounts, more than 17 people have died in the protests since her death.
The government of Iran has shut down the Internet and major cell towers to stop all avenues of communication used by Iranian citizens in an attempt to silence their voices.
The Republican Party of Orange County condemns these actions against the people of Iran and stands in solidarity and support of the Iranian American community of Orange County.”
